Peacock FOTD 15/04

The best thing about changing your hair colour is getting to wear different makeup shades. I've been leaning more towards keeping my eyes simple with a flick of black liner and playing up my lips with lilac and pink colours such as MAC's Blooming Lovely, Viva Glam Gaga and Pink Friday (which I've since misplaced-hope I haven't lost it after the bother I went through to buy it) and yesterday I wore NYX Strawberry Milk which almost never works for me but looked fab yesterday.
Last Friday however, I decided it was time to play with eye colours and pulled out this old Pout palette called Masque de la Nuit which contains a trio of eyeshadows to create a peacocky eye. They aren't the most pigmented I've ever used in fact it's a pity as they are gorgeous rich shades in the pan but this doesn't reflect in a swatch or on the eye. I've been increasingly loving using coloured eye pencils underneath my powder eyeshadows though, to give them kick. Any poor pigmented shadow come to life when you apply over a good base and the colour is super long-lasting too. A few years back I went crazy for these pencils and then they've sat there unloved as I always resort to using my trusty black-so I'm pleased I've found a use for them. My favourites are No7 Metallic Eyes (which I used here), MAC and Urban Decay. As you will see in these swatches, the eyeshadow alone is pretty crappy. When worn over the top of the pencil (shade 01 Green), the colour is rich and shimmering. I always wear a primer (either Urban Decay or Too Faced), then apply the base pencil all the way from lashline to crease, then apply the eyeshadow as I please. The primer stops the pencil creasing although these brands tend to be non-crease anyway. So here's the finished look. I used the ivory shade to highlight the brow bone, the green up to the crease (perhaps just slightly over) and the blue in the outer corner and socket to define as well as smudging some along the lower lashline. On my face is the usual Estee Lauder Double Wear in 1c1 Shell, Pout concealer and pressed powder. Lancome black kohl and L'Oreal SuperLiner in Carbon Black with No7 Exquisite Curl mascara. On my cheeks is MAC My Highland Honey and I thought I wore my MAC Plushglass in Bubble Tea although it looks darker in these pics, so perhaps not...!

  1. Wow that is really cool hair, how on earth do you maintain it! I have have trouble enough just maintaining a solid colour. I've just dyed my hair light pink from blue actually and it is interesting to see what colours do and do not go anymore! x
