LOTD: Week 1

Image
Post does not contain any PR gifted products.  Post contains affiliate links, marked with * (which can earn the blog a small commission on purchases made). Welcome to my first proper post in a very long time-I hope you're all keeping well.  This series will focus on my LOTD's (Lip Of The Day) and which perfumes I've been wearing with them.  As I mentioned last week, I got into the habit of wearing daily lip combinations years ago, despite no longer wearing a full face of makeup.  Lip products have always been some of my favourite kinds of makeup, though I'd say my tastes have changed somewhat over the past year or two.  As you'll see, I mostly wear lipliner with a balm, oil or gloss and tend not to reach for my lipsticks as much (lipstick always used to be my favourite).

Festive Beauty 2022: Day 18

Post contains affiliate links (which can earn the blog a small commission on purchases made). No gifted PR products in this post. There's less than a week until Christmas and every day I'll be blogging beauty products from past and present Holiday collections. Yesterday was the Dolce & Gabbana lipgloss  I finally got my hands on, from 2021 and today I have some things from a current collection. Over on The Shoe Girl Diaries I'm sharing my Irregular Choice Christmas shoes and at the bottom of every post there's a little online treat. I've bought almost the entire Dior colour collection this year (well, I pretty much do every year actually). Last year I shared my Diorific nail polishes that I've collected from Holiday collections over the years, as that's the format they tend to come in. Weirdly however, this year, the nail colours are in regular Dior Vernis packaging. The overall colour theme is midnight blue and gold with stars, so the silver t...

I'm blogging past and present Christmas beauty releases every day until Christmas with a discount code or free gift offer at the bottom of each post. yesterday I shared an eyeshadow palette from Kiko's 2020, Holiday Gems collection . Today, I'm very excited about the item I have. I've been wanting to blog this since I got it from Santa last year, but was saving it for my Festive Beauty posts this year! Over on The Shoe Girl Diaries , I'm sharing my Irregular Choice Christmas or festive looking shoes, daily. Today, I have something from the current season, a twist on an old character heel. This is the Dior Rouge Dior Minaudiere , Case & Lipstick Holder from their 2021 Atelier Of Dreams Collection. For years now, as part of the Dior gift sets, there's been a case with lipsticks. The case were usually zipped, leather-look ...

Flashback Beauty Friday 92: Dior Beauty Confidential

Image
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifted items. I've been quite excited this week as the festive makeup collections are starting to come out. I bought a lot of MAC's Bubbles & Bows and it all looks lovely, I'm really saving for the Paul & Joe Cinnamoroll release and their advent calendar though (which I love every year). I've already bought Mum the Elemis calendar for Christmas.  Anyway last week, I shared the Stila sponge compact foundation, Pivotal Skin , if you missed that. Today I have a limited edition piece that means a lot to me.

Flashback Beauty Friday 70: Rouge Dior Lipstick History

Image

Quite a picture heavy post for you this time as I'm looking back on the history of Dior Rouge lipstick packaging. Last week I shared the No7 Spring 2009 Petal palettes , if you missed that. So, Christian Dior began working on producing a lipstick in the late 40's, after a desire to dress women, literally, from head to toe and by 1950, he launched his first.  This limited edition item was gifted to the most loyal clients of his boutique on Avenue Montaigne in Paris, before finally being sold in 1953.  The original lipsticks were like works of art; a beautiful, obelisk shape that looked impressive on your dressing table with a more practical lid for carrying in your handbag. The first Rouge Dior lipsticks were refillable, something that current Creative Director, Peter Philips, has revisited (but more on that later).

Flashback Beauty Friday 57: Dior Addict Gloss History

Post contains affiliate links and no PR gifted items. Aloha beauties! I feel a bit strange going back to 'regular' Flashback Beauty Friday posts after 2 months of special Christmas and New Year festive posts. It's probably worth reintroducing this weekly feature to any new readers.  It's basically a nostalgic look back at old makeup, especially limited edition or discontinued pieces and their packaging. I generally love reminiscing and am a massive hoarder, so I've amassed a large collection of beautiful products that I hope spark memories of items or brands you'd forgotten about or fallen out of love with.  It's intended to be fun but a little informative too.  Sometimes it's one item or a whole themed collection or like today, I have packaging evolution over the years. If you missed my final Lunar New Year special post last week, it was the NARS 2021 release .

It's been a while since a Beauty Lately... post, though last night I checked back and thought "March 24th? That was just over a week ago, I thought it was longer since I posted". Then I realised, we're in May now! So more like 5 weeks. I've still been photographing bits for these posts, so hopefully I'll get back to regular posting and get caught up.

Beauty Lately...

Image
Post contains some affiliate links, no PR gifted items.   I'm back resurrecting a blog series from several years ago. I started Beauty Lately...  in the summer of 2017 and I don't quite know why I never posted again, perhaps because the period that followed was filled with gallstone attacks (!) I don't know, but I want to reinstate it. If you didn't read my blog back then or can't quite recall the post, it's basically mini beauty reviews; good, bad or indifferent (skincare, makeup, fragrance, body, hair) that I'm currently using or have used lately. I have my next post almost ready to go and have used a few new things for the post after that, so let's get stuck into this one and I have 5 items for you today.

Beauty Lately...

Image
So, a few weeks ago Mum and I went out for lunch (if an ice-cream sundae qualifies as a meal!) and I'm making a point of wearing makeup when I leave the house now (rare occasions, but I'll take that). I didn't have long to get ready but used a few new things and thought I'd share my thoughts, alongside some other new items I've been playing with.

NOTD #1

Image
Seeing as I rarely manage to wear makeup these days, but still enjoy beauty blogging, I thought I should begin documenting my manicures. It's something that in the past year at least, I've tried to regularly maintain (every couple of weeks or so). I'm also training myself to blog something that doesn't involve screeds of writing and tonnes of photos! Surely I can manage a couple of photos and short paragraph? So, these were my nails for New Year. I'd prioritised too many other things (as you do) that by Christmas my nails were all chipped and I didn't have the energy to do anything about it, so although I wasn't going out anywhere, I decided to make them nice for Hogmanay.

My Favourite Sunglasses And Why I'll Only Buy High End

Image
You probably know this, but several years ago I developed an obsession with sunglasses. It began with cheapo Primark ones that I liked and at £2 a pop, didn't hurt my bank balance. One in every colour? Sure. I bought loads. I liked that it was another aspect of my outfit that I could chop and change to whatever I fancied that day, like jewellery or a handbag. Then, I don't know what triggered it, but I started seeking out unusual shapes or colours or frames with fancy bits on them and thus delved into the world of luxury eyewear. I bought the stunning loopy legged 'Minimal Baroque' from Prada, sleek and fierce cat-eye 'Nikita' by Tom Ford and a couple of deliciously quirky takes on 'cat eyes' from Irregular Choice (well one was a birthday present). Last year I eventually tracked down the gingham D&G frames that I'd unwillingly left behind in TKMaxx years previous. I even found the limited edition red Dior Miss Cherie pair that again, I...
