Shoes I've Worn In 2020

Image
Post does not contain any PR gifted items and includes one affiliate link. 2020 for me started off pretty rough.  I'm not intentionally being vague about why, it's just that's not what this post is about.  In a bid to ease what was going on, Mum took me out a lot more than is usual for me.  It was clearly excellent foresight, given what was coming in Spring!  Since the pandemic hit, Mum and Dad don't go out much, my sister has to work and I haven't left the house at all since March.  Most people think that's too unbelievable to be true, but it is.  I'm accustomed to not getting out much, so in all honesty, it's not been too hard or different to my usual life.  I'm not saying it's easy, but after 18 years of it, you adapt to continually missing out.  Anyway, I thought I'd share the shoes I have worn so far this year, actually mostly boots as I was in a right phase in January/February.

Comparison: Irregular Choice Tall Tail

Image
I thought you might be interested in seeing how my Irregular Choice Tall Tail platforms measure up to other shoes in my collection.  It can be quite hard to grasp the size of them, when they're standing alone in a photo. So I figured you might own some of these or be able to gauge their size in comparison to known styles (not just Irregular Choice). I have some heels that come close, but the massive platform is really what sets them apart.  I've included links to the individual The Shoe Girl Diaries posts for most styles, so you can see how they look on the foot too (you might not have seen them before as some are quite old).  You can see more detailed photos of Tall Tail in this post or how they look on the foot here and also a video walking in them .  The platform is 6" and heel 8 1/4".

Haul & Preview: New Look Novelty Clutches

Image
I didn't make any resolutions this year, but I could resolve to fix my blog 'pending' post pile! I photographed these bags back in November and the photos have been sitting in a folder ever since. Not very productive.  I'm pretty sure I even wrote in my diary a few times to post them, but I didn't even start editing never mind writing. No more! I must make an effort to post ALL of these 'forgotten' folders of photos. How do you fancy some (May) birthday photos in February and Christmas gifts in April? FOTD and reviews from 2011? Don't laugh, it could happen!

Pre Christmas ASOS Haul

Image
ASOS have been quite generous with discount codes over the past couple of months, so I've been ordering rather regularly. I thought I'd share some of my purchases, starting with a smallish order a couple of weeks ago, which included the wiggle dresses I reviewed last week (Tall and winter floral crepe ones).

Bought & Thought

Yo, yo, yo, prettiest unicorn on the planet here! At least that is what my human Mummy calls me (usually followed with "yes you are, yes you are"), she says you'll all be mimicking the voice she does at that point. I don't say much back, for fear of bursting my stitches, but I can see how much I mean to her.  She says there's no way anyone will fit all their crap in here, not sure I like the sound of that, but then she does that loving, drooling look and everything is good again.  Mum says you'll meet my brother soon.  He's kinda mysterious, all glossy black with a gold mane.  Don't tell him this, but Mummy prefers me to him, I can just tell.  Plus I change from blue to pink depending on the light, pretty cool huh?  She says you'll want to know that you can buy me from ASOS here and New Look here  for £12.99 and that everyone needs one.  She even has a 20% off code for all full price items at ASOS that she wants to share with you, because she...

New Look: Novelty Clutch Bags

Image
Hello my lovelies, today I'm talking handbags! I've been bag OBSESSED lately. I guess for years the bag trends weren't to my taste, but now I see loads I love and can't stop buying them. At this rate, I need a dedicated room for them , never mind my shoes ; )

Video: Animal Ring Collection Pt.1

...and this is the first part of the animal rings videos, containing lots of different brands. I speak for a few seconds at the start then there's no sound and hopefully it won't have any blocking issues for anyone without the music. Enjoy!

My Week Has Sucked!

Image
This week has had it's ups and downs. The good things were I finally got Monster High 'Ghoulia' Dawn Of The Dance which I've been stalking Argos for. All my locals suddenly got tonnes more stock (fyi St Andrews have 2 Lagoona and Dundee Overgate have 1 Ghoulia and 1 (I think, I was so excited I didn't really look) Cleo, Dundee Wellgate also have 3, but I haven't checked which ones they are). *since writing this the Overgate have got another 2 DOTD in stock, so I don't know which ones they are* I also eventually (we've been searching for weeks) found tights to match an outfit I'd bought for my friends daughter ages ago, for her birthday. The striped pair in the pack perfectly match the stripey pair on the H&M dress and are by Matthew Williamson at Debenhams. We're starting to be extremely thankful that my sister has three boys, because girls clothes are waaay too cute. In Debenhams though, there were soooo many dresses I liked for myself. How...

New Look Autumn Winter 2011: Dresses

Image
I'll bring you a full preview of the New Look Autumn/Winter range later, but whilst I was browsing the images, I noticed a theme in the items I liked. It appears I'll be wearing a lot of navy dresses next season! I think New Look have had a really good year; there's been many pieces that have caught my eye after several years of not buying anything from there. These dresses have lost that tween appeal (garish colours, short hemlines), which is good for thirty-somethings like myself and it's not only the fabulous prints that attract but the detailing of bows and collars. Unfortunately the only thing putting me off, is the sizing. With all the dresses I've ordered from New Look this year, it's been very much hit or miss and I'm talking about the regular range (the plus size seems a little uninspiring to me). So NL, please make them generous and I'll buy them all! Model 1: Knitted headband £3.99, dandelion dress £24.99, socks £1.99 and shoe boots (l...

I'm Almost Back

Image
Hi! Still no computer and I'm starting to want to strangle the guys in the shop-no joke! It feels like we're being held to ransom though, because we've already been charged for the initial work they did and now our computer is sitting in bits (with them), so we could take it back and lose the money we've already paid and have a computer in pieces or wait until they properly fix it. Not much of a choice really. They assured me it would be ready on Saturday afternoon, but I've been hearing the same story for weeks. My parents are on their hols now though, so nobody can pick it up this week (I can't carry it by myself). So it'll be another week, I'm afraid. I thought I could try blogging a little in the meantime. I don't have my camera installed on my sisters laptop and both my camera memory cards are now full of photos I've taken in the past few weeks anyway-but I figured I could at least blog items that don't require 'real' phot...

New Look/LCF Limited Edition Shoes

Image
Another design collab, this time from New Look with London College of Fashion . To be honest, I'm only really in love with one pair, everything else is a little too 'regular New Look' line for me and just nothing worth shouting about. The denim on the pairs above and below are not my thing at all. The detail on the strappy pair add a little interest (although I'm still not sure I even like it) plus the mid-heel and frumpy shape detract from that anyway. The mules below, well they are just too 80's, too frayed, too mule and just too euch! I mean how would you style them? I'm at a loss. From the previews, I had expected to like these 'fascinator' heels in black or ivory. Looking at the online product images though they just came across as looking a little too cheap. I like the shape and I like the t-bar detail but the materials don't do them justice and this pair look like they'd belong in the regular line because of that and I wouldn't s...

Not As Expected...

Image
A similar image of this dress has been on the New Look homepage for weeks now. Along with a plain nude version it read something like 'spring dresses from £9.99'. Every time I spot it, it reminds me to look for it on the site, because it's such a lovely looking dress (although every time you clicked the image it didn't lead you to the dress which was annoying). Last week however, I spied a similar one in the 'new' section...not identical but too similar to be a different design. Then I got an email with the above image and it took me to the dress (below) and indeed it was the same one. First things first, the dress was out of stock by then, so a waste of time promoting it and it's almost £20 more expensive than the initial promotion (I know it said 'from' but showing two of these dresses leads you to believe...). More importantly, I was so disappointed, this wasn't the vintage, thrifted look summery dress in the image above. Just shows the powe...

My 1st Shopping Trip Of The Year!

Image
I went shopping in Dundee today, it was really nice to get out. The shops were a little disappointing though. It's kind of that odd in between seasons period and there's not even any decent sale stuff left. I had a list of items I was struggling to find online, but didn't manage to get anything on the list. I was looking for this Beth Ditto polka dot dress in Evans , but I don't think they even stock that collection. Such a shame as it's now reduced to £20 (I hadn't been prepared to pay £60 for it) and totally out of stock online. River Island was pretty crap, nothing I liked from the new ranges (yet) and I didn't even bother to look at sale clothes as their 18's probably don't fit me anyway. The sale accessories were much the same as what's left online and I didn't see any sale handbags. I did manage to avoid buying a couple of pairs of cute shoes, these lace peep toes now £20 and a pair of weird half sided, strappy electric blue wedges (£30...
