Swatches: ASOS Beauty Box (November)

Image
In September ASOS launched their very first beauty box to coincide with their new, own-brand makeup line and revamp of the current beauty department (now known as "Face + Body"). I've been tempted each time as there's 5 items inside, priced at £12 and there's no subscription, you just buy it outright if you like it that month. It's taken until this month for me to go for it.  This time it contained (all full-size) items from their own-brand range rather than other brands. I'm always keen to trial new stuff, so this seemed like the perfect ooportunity. The box is incredible value for money with the palette alone retailing for £12. Yep, the liquid lipstick, mascara, blusher and eyeliner are all free. The whole makeup line is affordable anyway, but it's still a £29 saving.  Read on for swatches and a closer look at what's inside the ASOS Beauty Box (November edition).

My Top 5 Autumn Buys: John Lewis

Image
With the nights drawing in and winter looming, the shops are filled with new season clothes-my favourite time of the year! I'm not sure why, but A/W fashion always gets me much more excited than S/S. John Lewis have launched their fashion magazine online , brimming with new pieces and trends (it's also available free via the app store if you have a fancy phone/tablet/whatever new thing has just launched-'fraid I'm not that tech minded) and they've asked me to pick out my favourites. Hard job, but someone has to do it, wink, wink! I'm happy to see what I'd consider staples and classics rather than entirely 'new' trends and this little lot has me wishing I was instore trying and buying right now!

Monster High Monday: Dance Class Operetta

Image
Sometimes it feels like Monday comes round real fast and it's 'Monster High Monday' again! This week I'm featuring one of my newest dolls and she's gone right up to my favourites list. I wanted her, but when I got her, I realised she was even cooler and more amazing than I'd originally thought! She is Operetta, daughter of the Phantom Of The Opera. She has lilac toned skin and a rockabilly style which I think is super cute. She's pretty partial to a red lip! She always comes with a little mask like the Phantom as she has some 'artwork' and 'disfigured' carvings on her arm and one side of her face, just like Daddy! As scary as that should be-I think she looks stunning with it. I also got to add a little beauty spot just next to the lower lip and switched my eyes for grey ones, not too scary actually. So, I started with Lancome Teint Miracle in 005 with Illamasqua Rich Foundation in 115 under the eyes, Playboy First Blush in...

Monster High Monday - Gloom Beach Frankie

Image
Finally getting this post done and by the looks of things the images have remained the same size , wonders will never cease! This week was a bit of a tricky one because it involved a lip colour that I knew I didn't have and also because the eye and lip were practically the same shade and let me tell you, that can be hard to work! The doll in question is Frankie from Gloom Beach, who I forgot I owned until I found her (opened but) in a box in my room before I sorted out my doll storage. I then questioned why I'd even bought her as she isn't really a 'must-have' for me considering I don't religiously collect all the Frankie dolls (actually it turns out I have (or did have) more of her than Clawdeen who I do consider myself a collector of). Anyway, she already has green skin but decided to go all out with a pretty green lip and eye! In the end I'd say this turned out to be one of my better MHM's as it really captured the look of the doll (minus bolts...

A Strange Package

Image
This week I received the strangest thing in the mail. It was from Maybelline and the cute pink bubble bag contained their latest mascara. Not so strange you're thinking. Well, the mascara wasn't actually included, just the brush. That's right, inside was a clean mascara wand with no product. It includes a little bit about the product and a voucher for £1 off, but obviously I have no means of testing it pre-purchase. What a waste of money and promotion, I thought. Then the next thing I did was take photos of the brush to show you and as I'm writing this, perhaps it's not such a strange marketing move, as it's got us talking about it! I still would have preferred to try a proper sample of the product before making up my mind about whether or not I want to purchase it. I always claim that the brush is half the battle with mascara, but I still wouldn't be convinced to buy it solely upon using this sample brush with any of my regular mascaras. How ca...

PHP's Beloved Beauty Bits (December)

Image
It's been a long time since my last BBB post. I attempted several times over the summer and time always got away from me and I vowed to do it the next month, then the next....and now it's a new year! So anyway, here we go with the products I've been loving during December. First up is Lancome Teint Miracle foundation in 005 Beige Ivoire. You'll note I only have a tiny bit of this bottle left (breathing into a paper bag at the thought) and that's because once I started using it, I became obsessed and wore it every day all through summer and autumn. After being similarly obsessed with YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat, I decided to 'force' myself into trying something else from my stash and was so impressed with this, that like I said, I practically used it all up (until I panicked at the tiny amount left and reverted back to the YSL one). So why do I like it so much? Well the colour (the lightest) is a pretty decent match for my pale skin, it covers beau...

Review: Lancome Hypnose Precious Cells Mascara

Image
I first started using this mascara last year and meant to review it then because I was immediately very impressed with it. I'm such a prat though because I actually have several mascaras to review and took lots of close-ups each day I was wearing them and uploaded them but didn't get the chance to edit them. So now when I look at them, I have no friggin' idea which mascara belongs to which lashes/day! Idiot! Thankfully on this particular day I included a picture of the brush which was enough to ID it, so I'm definitely talking about the correct product here with the right images. This particular mascara is the Precious Cells formula of Lancome 's 'best selling' Hypnose which uses plant cell extracts (from apples rather randomly) to regenerate lash growth, help prevent lash fall-out and generally care and condition lashes whilst volumising. I'm a fan of this idea of cosmetics actually caring for your skin/lashes/lips etc whilst also doing their job as...
