I'm all over secret sales right now. I don't know if it's a mixture of the credit crunch (although I can't say it's personally/directly affecting me) and the fact that I'm trying to be slightly more sensible with my purchases and save for more expensive items rather than big blow-outs on cheaper throw-away fashions.
Obviously I'm not alone though, as they seem to be really popular. Most sites require you to register (it's free to join), some have a waiting list-others you are registered as a member straight away. Over the past few weeks there have been sales from the likes of House of Holland, Georgina Goodman, Karl Lagerfeld, DvB, Liberty of London and Calvin Klein, to name just a few. Most sales last a couple of days and you can sign up to receive updates of when a sale is about to go live. Here's a rundown of the best around.http://www.cocosa.com/ This sites is invitation only, although you can join without a referall, but there is a waiting list. Tend to have smaller selection of items, but more 'designer worthy' goods than other sites. Most sales just last 48 hours and you are notified in advance of which designers are currently showing/coming up and at what time they start. Currently Matthew Williamson including this gorgeous coat (above) £195 instead of £650, Laura Lee jewellery from £45 and Jane Carr (scarfs, sarongs) from £39. Coming soon; Felder Felder, Smythson of Bond Street bags and Scott Wilson jewellery.
http://www.brandalley.co.uk/ Have more sales than Cocosa at any one time (currently Fashion Boutique, Sharkah Chakra, Artisanti, Myla, French Connection, Rockport and Beauty Boutique). Sales include household, beauty and menswear, not just ladies fashion. Sales are larger and prices lower (cheaper brands), for example, Fashion Boutique includes Traffic People, Wish, Mimosa and Antik Denim prices from £15 with up to 75% off. Coming soon, Panache swimwear and lingerie and wedding sale (inc. CK, Dower & Hall, Mark Powell and Tateossian).
http://secretsales.com/ Lots of sales on at one time, currently including shoes by Georgina Goodman (from £114) and Studio TLMS (from £27.50), DvB denim (from £62) as well as bedding, jewellery, watches, sunglasses and many more. Aquascutum coming soon. Items tend to sell out quite quickly. Limited number of members can join before they 'close their doors', can join via referall. http://vente-privee.com/ Tends to be more exclusive brands and fewer sales at one time. If I remember correctly this had a waiting list to join. Currently showing Karl Lagerfeld (from £15), t-shirt above £35, and Misaki jewellery (from £15).
All of these exclusive sales clubs are free to join, drop me an email if you would like me to refer you (please include a note of which sites you would like to join), as I think this bumps you up the list if referred by someone.
Also worthy of a huge mention is the new outlet site from Net-a-Porter, called http://www.theoutnet.com/. It just opened today and is full of designer goods at discount prices. I was really disappointed that the majority of what I had my eye on was already sold-out. However there are still huge bargains on Christian Louboutin shoes and the like if you are lucky enough to snap them up straight away. It's a site I'll be checking daily!
