Swatches & Review: YSL Rouge Pur Lipsticks

I consider myself to be a pretty crappy photographer. Digital cameras have helped me to get by, but I'm still not great at it. However these pics I took last night, I'm really proud of. I was sitting in my room with nothing to do for an hour or so, so got out a bunch of lipsticks and tried in the terrible artificial light to take some decent shots. They've turned out brilliantly in terms of true-to-life colours, so I'm a happy bunny. Trying to take an image of swatches on my hand wasn't so easy. My camera just would not allow it, but I managed to get one halfway decent pic.
These Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur lipsticks are an absolute dream. The colour you see in the tube is pretty much the colour that will apply to your lips and they feel so creamy. The first 2 shades are metallic and also contain lots of glitter which you can see in the tube. They are extremely opaque, although still buildable. The other 2 colours were slightly more sheer and in turn more buildable and wearable. They also didn't have that metallic finish and although you can almost see very fine silver shimmer in the pink lipstick, the nude has none. Although these lipsticks are pricey (£21), I really do think they are worth the money. The chunky gold casing feels very luxurious and you'll be hoping you need to touch up in public to show it off!
34 Or Cuivre/Golden Copper...a rich copper brown, metallic with slight pink flash
59 Melon D'Or/Golden Melon...coppery, golden orange, looks peachy in tube but not on hand (least true to life in the swatch photo unfortunately)
138 Rose Orchidee/Pink Orchid...a clean, flamingo pink, more sheer than above, but still has excellent pigment
142 Beige Miel/Honey Beige...beautiful nude beige, again more sheer but still true to colour in tube
Swatches, not a great image, the lipsticks look sheer when they aren't-it's just the light hitting off the shine of the lipstick. Imagine a thick, rich, metallic, opaque colour and true-to-tube colour for the last 2.

  1. Hi!
I'm really liking the melon lipstick. Is the color like orange or more peachy pink? Thanks!

  4. No I find it still very browny nude, not pinky and not any lighter than in the swatch.
