Irregular Choice Alice: Who In The World Am I? (Stripes)

irregular choice who in the world am i? striped ankle boot
Hola chickadees! Sad news. Well not entirely. This is the last pair of Alice shoes I have to review from the second Irregular Choice collection. Boooo! Fear not though, I have news of more (at the bottom of this post) along with links to all 10 (yes, really) posts so far and guess what's happening on Friday? Cinde-freaking-rella launches. Whooop! Sorry I'm wired just now, I had a good day yesterday where I got out (shopping), wore makeup (hell yeah) and actually enjoyed myself and we all know that's been years overdue, but anyways, shoes. Last week it was the sequins version of these Who In The World Am I? boots (please let me shorten to the only slightly less complicated WITWAI? from now on) and once more, I'll reiterate that I see absolutely no reason why you can't own both and not in a greedy-moo way. If you like and can afford both, then it's not something I'd feel 'guilty' about. They are different colours, different finishes, same style but really different in style if you get me.

This pair come in a high-shine, smooth patent unlike the textured sequins of the other pair and have a bright blue metallic bow on the side. I really could rub my hand up and down the uppers of these all day long. I'd probably definitely look like a creep, but it would make me happy. There's something so satisfying about something this smooth. My Mum would mention aubergines at this point (must be a genetic thing). The uppers are printed with white and blue stripes. I've always been more of a polka dot girl, so stripes don't 'naturally' excite me and this was probably why I was a little hesitant at first about these. I just wasn't sure they were totally 'me'. I'm also not getting a strong Irregular Choice vibe off these and before you yell, hear me out. They are just so simple and matchy and usually IC throw in a curve-ball in the form of an 'odd' trim, pattern clash or something generally off-kilter, but it's all very sedated, yet bold. irregular choice alice who in the world am i? boots irregular choice alice who in the world am i? front irregular choice alice who in the world am i? back irregular choice alice who in the world am i? blue metallic bow
That said, they do remind me a little of the Can Can booties from back in the day. They had nothing more than a bold monochrome zig-zag pattern and black organza ribbon going on and were striking too. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this or intending it to come across negatively, because these were the 'White Rabbit' of this collection for me.  Where they've ended up being one of my favourites, when I wasn't sure at first.  So it's simply an observation. Back to the stripes and do I dissect these the way I would with spots? Stripey fan-friends speak up now. Ok, well I like the width of stripe, I think it works well on the boot shape and I also like that they are vertical. I thought them not matching at the heel (where they start to slant diagonally) would bother me in person (as it had online), but I can't say it does. I never see that bit when I'm wearing them (obviously), but it's not something I find myself looking at or wrangling with. Sure, it would've been nice if the stripes did meet each other, but they don't.  There is a piped edge around the top to hopefully avoid rubbing and a full length zip on the inner side to get them on and off. irregular choice alice who in the world am i? zip detail
The toe is softly rounded and the cut of the boot is close to the foot.  I bought these (and the sequins) in the size up and am glad I did. Even in this size, they are tight across my foot and I doubt the size down would've fitted. I don't notice any slippage inside (if they were too long), probably because of the tightness across the foot, but I'm certainly not aware of masses extra in length. irregular choice alice who in the world am i? toeirregular choice alice who in the world am i? toe shape
The heel on these, is an Alice character heel and like I said in my last post, I've reviewed this same heel 5 times now (and yes, I've kept them all), so don't have anything extra to add really. It measures 4", is very easy to wear and though it has one of the smaller bases (in character heels), feels very sturdy. Her dress is contained within the width of the shoe and sits underneath the sole of the shoe, so there's no bits sticking out. There's also no arms or little fiddly bits on this one. The heel is both painted and carved and has a gloss finish. I still think she looks like she's squeezing out a poo (once you've seen that, you can't really un-see it) but I realise if she was standing there would've been extra height, which I think would've deterred some people (not me). Plus the base might've been even smaller if we didn't have the flowers and grass. With five pairs in my collection, she's obviously won my heart anyway and so I just ask her from time to time, how she's getting on.  She's still struggling, obviously. irregular choice alice who in the world am i? heel behindirregular choice who in the world am i? alice heelsirregular choice alice heel who in the world am i?irregular choice alice who in the world am i? outer side heel detail irregular choice alice who in the world am i? heel facing detailirregular choice alice who in the world am i? inner side heel detail irregular choice alice who in the world am i? heel baseirregular choice alice who in the world am i? heel tip
The soles are the same as the sequins version and also Flowers Can't Talk from the first collection, with flower scenes, different on each foot. The inners feature the all-over Alice In Wonderland blue print and are nicely padded and feel comfortable to wear. I don't think I've mentioned this previously, but they are quite warming or well insulated, so you might find some of these too warm in warmer weather. irregular choice alice who in the world am i? solesirregular choice alice who in the world am i? right soleirregular choice alice who in the world am i? alice flowers soleirregular choice alice who in the world am i? left sole irregular choice alice who in the world am i? rocking horsefly sole
Like I said at the start, these surprised me and I didn't expect to fall so hard for them.  The simplicity of them, makes them so striking and they do stand out among my others.  I think the Alice heel is even more noticeable on these too.  They were my Dad's favourite from this collection, he thinks they are brilliant.  So that's it, final review complete just in time for Cinderella (if I get any), see links below for all my previous posts. All is not over though. I took some comparison photos of these two boots together and also of both My Cup Of Tea with One Lump Or Two? from the first collection thrown in, if you were struggling with picking between green or pink or wondering if the green were too similar to the blue. That'll be gobbledygook if you aren't au fait with the styles in question, otherwise you catch my drift? Good-oh. I also have Day Of The Trooper and Battle With Artoo to review from Star Wars. Why oh why did nobody remind me of this? No seriously, it's been a crazy few months and sometimes these things do get pushed back whilst the more current themes take priority. I am only one sick, l'il chick and can't do it all, though I try. The SW shoes don't have fancy backdrops sadly, as I didn't feel up to it at the time, but let's not tell my Dad about the flowers we stole from his garden for this shoot. "The wind blew them off" or "I picked them up off the ground" is all we need to say. Stay with me on this! You can buy the striped boots here and what do you think of WITWAI?, prefer the stripes, like the sequins better, bought both? 1. They ARE striking! That's what I think everytime I see them in a picture. I do like them and how the Alice IS a real distinctive element to them rather than being yet another kitsch element!

    1. Oh yeah. It's still so exciting to get out and see things other than these 4 walls, but the payback is killer!
