Flashback Beauty Friday 69: No7 Petal 2009
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifted items.
I hope you're all well this week? Today I have a selection of items from 2009. I had already photographed the blushes for this post, then later discovered I owned the eyeshadow quad from the same range. I decided to retake all the photos so you could see all the items together. Last week, I shared the Summer 2007 YSL palettes if you missed that.
This was the Spring 2009 limited edition collection from No7. Inspired by the natural beauty of an English rose, both the eyeshadow and blush palettes are reminiscent of the look and texture of rose petals. All come housed in similar round compacts, a warm cream on the base with clear, domed lid that lifts open. The peach boxes have a lovely pearlized sheen that didn't translate on camera unfortunately.
The No7 Petal Eye Palette is a 4 pan compact with small double ended sponge/brush applicator in the centre. "Light and pearly these four shades are so silky soft they glide effortlessly across the eyes. For a soft and pretty look use the light pink with the hot pink to highlight or for something with more impact use the mint green with the dusky khaki which contains a special two-tone pearl for extra flashes of colour."
I did have to edit these swatch photos to look more accurate as they were very washed out and even now, you can barely see the light green and pink. They were more obvious in the flesh. The purple was the only colour I don't think I've ever used and having not read the back of the box, I was surprised to swatch it and find it was actually pink. It has more of a metallic finish, like the darker green which as they mentioned is two-toned. It's a deep metallic green with a tan-brown base. To be honest I wish it was straight up green, purely because I love that type of colour and browns don't suit me. It took quite a bit of building in order to keep the green, it wanted to blend out to just the brown. These swatches were on bare skin, heavily applied with a finger. All felt soft and applied smoothly.
Then we have the No7 Petal Blusher, which I have in both Pink and Peach. "A blusher with soft and velvet textures that when swirled together and brushed over the cheeks give a natural flush of colour whilst a combination of matt and shimmer shades sculpt the contours of your face." The lack of punctuation (commas in particular) in No7's descriptions always makes me anxious! In these round compacts, you have a swirly, trio of colours, again with the petal effect embossing.
Pink is the brighter of the two with a fuchsia, soft ballet nude/pink and deep rosy pink.
With Peach, there's not so much of a contrast between the three shades, with a deep burnt orange sandwiched between two peaches, one slightly paler and neutral than the other. In the pan, you'll probably notice I've used this one more than Pink, with some blending between the colours.
On my arm, I've swatched the colours separately with my finger, so they are a lot heavier than they'd be diffused with a soft brush on the cheeks, but I wanted you to be able to see each colour. I couldn't bring myself to properly smoosh the colours together with my finger for a blended swatch! Some shades took more building than others. The right and left shades of Pink are super bright in person, the more purple one (1st swatch) is especially neon.
I never look at No7 limited edition releases now, probably because I'm never instore and I always got tempted if it was right there in front of me! Do you remember this launch?
