Flashback Beauty Friday is a weekly look back at discontinued or limited edition beauty products and their packaging. Last week I chose a bronzing compact by Pout and today I have a beautiful, limited edition piece from YSL.

This is the Yves Saint Laurent Opium Powder For Eyes & Complexion, which launched in Autumn 2006. I have quite a big collection of old, limited edition palettes from YSL.

Opium is of course an iconic YSL fragrance and over the years they've produced a lot of these makeup palettes inspired by their perfumes.

The compact comes in a velvet pouch with a double ended sponge applicator (for eyes) and a small flat brush (for the face).

The pressed powder inside, mirrors the outer compact with a carved flower design made up of pearly white, jade green and a deep plum. The base is a golden beige. The purple and green could definitely be used on the eyes with the sponge applicator, but I guess the white would work as a highlighter or eye colour and the golden colour could be used on the eyes, but mostly for the face, with the brush.  Having not swatched it, I can't tell if it's like a blusher, bronzer or deep highlight.

I just can't bring myself to touch it, as much as they are colours I'd use, it's a collectors piece for me along with all my other ones.  Isn't it pretty?
