Too Pretty To Swatch (TPTS)

I've been dropping hints in several posts and even released a similar image to the one above as a teaser back in November last year. However, it's finally here, my brand new beauty feature, titled "Too Pretty To Swatch" (not exactly catchy, but I'm all brainstormed out). How many times have you heard me say in a beauty haul post "it's too pretty to use", "I can't swatch it yet, it's too pretty", "I don't want to touch and ruin it"? A lot! Probably 95% of my beauty posts contain at least one item that I'm too scared to use, because the palette/lipstick/whatever is too pretty and I know by sticking my finger in, it'll be ruined forever. Most of the time, they are costly too, so it's that battle of 'it's too expensive to ruin, but too expensive not to use'!  Just today I unearthed this 'little' lot of YSL limited editions.
Ten whole palettes that have been kept untouched for years. It's ridiculous! I've never had the courage to use them. I'm saying that too often though, so it's time I do something about it and this feature is going to make me!! This is why I've been planning and debating it since November because I know once I've told you, I'll have to stick with it and that's terrifying.
I figure if I take decent photos of each item before using it, then I'll always have that to look back on and hopefully that should be enough. So how is it going to work? Well, each month I'll put together a selection of items I've been courageous enough to dip into! I'll have before and after photos (as proof) along with swatches and I'll be able to tell you if I liked it, will continue to use it, that sort of thing. At the moment, I'm not sticking to 'x' amount each month, because I know it's going to be frightening to start with and also I have no idea how many of these items I've stored away, so don't know how long this feature could last. I already have a couple of items for January that you'll get to see this week and little, baby steps for me at first I think.

I can foresee some tears when it comes to those ridiculously pretty ones and I know how silly that sounds (it's just a little powder), but they are works of art and the collector in me wants to keep them pristine.  What use is that though?  Once I hit the publish button, there's no going back!  Do you think I'm crazy to use them or crazy not to?  Let me know and we can hold hands and paw them one last time together : )

Also Monster High Monday, I know it's taken a big break, but my house is manic right now and I'm barely able to get dressed, never mind do makeup etc.  I can't take doll selfies with crazy makeup on in front of builders, I just can't!  So the break will continue for the next month or so.  My Beloved Beauty Bits will be back though (once I start wearing makeup again)! I have a couple of outstanding posts which I'm hoping to sort through and publish and get back into it.  My lipstick challenge is still in full swing, although you've not seen any evidence the past couple of weeks because I haven't been posting FOTD shots.  Make me press the publish button on this post now...

I understand that and you've got such good idea to push yourself!
I wish they make same design of picture or maybe fortune or something (?) under the powder cake (bottom of jar) so may could feel little bit better to use them and remember how they looked with fulfilled.
but anyways you should take pic for sure before any touch!!haha

    1. That would be a good idea! Yes, it's going to be difficult.

  2. I would have a REALLY hard time doing that too--I was always the kid with the cute erasers that never got used. And I confess to having a limited edition eyeshadow untouched and tucked away myself. But, I don't think you're crazy to use them. Just brave. It'll only hurt a second, right?

  3. Lisa Eldridge has a huge collection of Biba make-up, and one day your items will become vintage collectibles too! So I don't see the reason why You should stick your fingers in them ;)
If Your collection is so big, You will not even have a chance to use those things up, and many of them are already too old to use... But that's just my opinion ;)
You can show us all the goodies without harming them :D

    1. Oh no, now you're making me doubt myself!! I just think, what am I keeping them for? If I die, none of my family would care to even look at them, nevermind use them. They would toss the lot. I can't see myself ever selling them one day either...argh, it's so difficult!

  4. I'm so excited about this new feature!! I absolutely love the idea and every time in the past when you showed us your purchases and wrote that the item was too pretty to use, in a way I definitely agreed with you but in a way I was like, I bet it would look even more pretty ON and then it'd be a shame that you'd never use it so I so happy about this.

Can't wait for you o use those awesome and super pretty lipsticks (the one with the cat carved out of it and the other carved one:)))

    1. Exactly and I say it ALL the time, so I realised it was maybe ridiculous keeping them all! Yes the cats are on my list...not sure if I can do it though!
