Onto the second of my lightning bolt heels and these, Galactic Thunder, were another Irregular Choice exclusive colour. They also came in a bright, multi colour or a darker combination, but I was drawn to the pink leopard print.
As money was tight with the new laptop, I envisioned returning these and just keeping the Heavens Above unicorn courts. However, the moment I unboxed them, I decided they were too special. Shape wise, they are very similar to the court shoe; a pointed toe, the new scalloped sole edge and obviously the same heel (albeit in a different colour). However there's a swirly bit on these which transforms them into an almost boot. You can see in the bottom photo below that the inner side of the shoe looks like a shoe, but from the outer sides, they are more in line with a boot shape, sitting higher up the leg.
The uppers are leopard print fabric, like a faux fur/velvet hybrid, in a different colourway of last seasons purple lining (the bright pair have the exact same purple). It can look like satin from afar (I questioned if it was, prior to seeing them in the flesh) because it has a sheen to it and there's no long pile or particularly textural look or feel unless you attempt to brush it the wrong way! Reminds me of the velvet dress I wore to my Dad's 70th birthday meal and when my eldest nephew touched my sleeve by accident, he realised it actually felt rather nice, until he brushed it the wrong way. He proceeded to stroke me (both the right and wrong way with suitably appropriate reactions for each) for the rest of the evening! Anyway, IC usually opt for warmer pinks, so it was nice to see a cooler tone here. There's silver embroidered stars on the uppers and purple metallic trimming the top of the shoe. Note the shoe doesn't have the same sweetheart opening the courts have.
The 'swirly bit' (clouds, rainbow, sky or whatever you want to think of it as) layers different shades of pastel glitter, all fine glitter with larger hexagonal pieces very sporadically. On the front of the shoe, it's finished with a large metallic pink and blue star, which feels very Irregular Choicey. Then creeping out from behind the swirls (on the higher side) is a mirrored, metallic crescent moon (the same on all colourways of this style). The pastel swirls already sit higher than the ankle and the top of the moon even higher than that. In the brief times I've tried them on, I didn't note any rubbing (like on an ankle boot) as the fit is fairly relaxed against the leg, but it does take a bit of getting used to. I'd liken it to the Stanley doggy courts, where the tail tickles up the back of your leg, you keep wondering what it is, then remember! Where the swirls cross over the shoe, they create this strap effect. These fit a little tighter than the courts because of this and some might have a bit of a push to get into the shoe past the 'strap'.
The heel is the same shape with the glitter cloud with metal stars in it sitting under the heel. The lightning bolt is mirrored gold here with no ombre effect like the Heavens Above I have. It reflects everything around it, which is pretty cool but I do love the blue one more. The heel tip is pink, as is the scalloped edge of the sole and you of course have the wonderful SS20 gaming soles again with the purple and floral materials lining inside.
I've worn these for Shoesday Tuesday over on The Shoe Girl Diaries with my opinion on the fit and heel measurements and you can find my fit review of Heavens Above here and the in depth review of those here. I think these styles are superb, a welcome addition to my concept heel gang.
