Flashback Beauty Friday 51: Playboy Lipgloss & Liquid Lipstick
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifted items.
Last week I shared the limited edition palette YSL released back in 2008 to celebrate 30 years of their beauty line. Today for Flashback Beauty Friday, I have a couple of items from a discontinued brand.
Playboy gained popularity in the early 00's as more than just an adult magazine, introducing a makeup line as well as jewellery, clothing and accessories for that Playmate look. Now as much as I'd love to take the moral high ground and declare my hatred for anything Playboy, I have to confess to absolutely loving this makeup. Seriously, they had so many good things in there. The blushes were absolutely divine (like rival Nars Orgasm type of divine) and their many lipsticks, of which I had loads and actually used them a lot, were also fantastic. I had powder eyeshadows, pencils and these two products which are actually different but similarly packaged, so I thought I'd include them together. There's Hef's Favourite Lip Gloss in shade 84 Ms. Playboy and the Liquid Luxe Lipstick in 80 Shot Girl.
The packaging compacts were pink with metallic gold detailing. The lipsticks the same or a deep purple with pink accents and as you can see these liquid products were both in clear tubes with gold detailing. The line included really wearable shades and looked fun and instantly recognisable as Playboy with the bunny logo, but I wouldn't say overly cheap and that was reflected in the price. It was drugstore, but at the higher end of that. I think Superdrug sold it, but if I remember correctly I used to buy mine from ASOS, back when they were "As Seen On Screen" (have to confess to still calling them that tbh) and then picked up a lot on discount websites when the brand was eventually discontinued.
The gloss is a beautiful light peachy nude, with barely visible shimmer (right swatch). It was super shiny, non sticky and something I reached for quite a bit. The liquid lipstick (left swatch) is the frostier one, again in a light peachy, nude shade, which was oh so popular in that era. This one has a strong gold frost finish and is much more opaque than the gloss. The colours of these liquid lipsticks in the tube, was exactly what you got on your lips.
I've realised through these posts that I'm a big fan of transparent packaging, as it's so easy to find the colour you're searching for, so for practical reasons, this packaging gets a thumbs up from me. Both have wands inside with slanted doe-foot applicators and the lids had a chrome finish, shaped like the bunny head. Did you have anything from the Playboy beauty brand?
