Flashback Beauty Friday 15: Givenchy Laque Miroir

Every now and then I like to throw a weird packaging concept into the mix and this week is definitely it! Flashback Beauty Friday is a nostalgic look back at old makeup products and their packaging, especially limited edition or discontinued pieces. Last week, was the very fun MAC Suedette palette from their Formal Black festive release in 2006.

This week is Givenchy Laque Miroir lip shine (lip gloss) or what I refer to as a futuristic pregnancy test. Isn't the packaging...odd? It's a frosted silver and shaped in a sculptural way, with a large oval mirror on the side.

You can't see the gloss at all through the packaging, but the shade numbers feature on the end of the tube with coloured backgrounds representing the shade inside and there's also a small strip of colour where you open them. Inside there's a wand with a slanted sponge tip applicator.  The glosses feel a bit more like liquid lipsticks, they're heavier and more pigmented than normal glosses.  Shade 2 looks darker here, but is actually a medium nude brown and shade 8 is more of a metallic plum.

Much like Guerlain lipsticks, I find the mirror on the side handy for applying the gloss. I'm not sure what I think of the rest of it, it feels a bit like a tester rather than the 'real' packaging.  It's definitely unique and I'm sticking with futuristic pregnancy test as the perfect description! I didn't recall these being so old, but I think they came out about 20 years ago now.  Do you remember these?
