Flashback Beauty Friday 14: MAC Suedette 6 Intense Eyes (Formal Black)
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifts.
I mentioned last week that I'd been digging around in a massive drawer where I store most of my bigger eyeshadow palettes and older ones. I found this gem, along with a few others from the brand and am so excited to have them back in my collection! The drawer I kept them in became inaccessible (well not entirely, but a bit of a hassle to get into), so I'm definitely keeping a lot of these rediscoveries out where I'll use them. Firstly though, hello, hope you are well. If you haven't read my previous posts, Flashback Beauty Friday is a fun series taking a look back at old makeup, mostly limited edition and their cool packaging. Last week, I shared the oldest beauty item I could find in my collection, vintage Sindy soap, almost as old as myself! Read on for the eye palette that's got me excited.
So this is the MAC Suedette: 6 Intense Eyes from their Holiday 2006 collection, Formal Black. Now I recall the Barbie collection being my first big MAC buy and that was 2007, so I don't remember when or where I bought this as I don't think I was buying or interested in MAC at that point. I'm thinking I saw it discounted online and got it after 2006.
I'm going to start with the actual eyeshadows because this palette is so attractive inside. It's rare you get a selection of colours like this, especially in a 6 pan palette where they're usually very matchy-matchy. They aren't necessarily shades I'd all use together, but a couple would go with each other or they're good mixing with others you already have.
I've had to look up the shade names because I couldn't see them anywhere on the palette or box. Phloof! is the shimmery soft ivory, I used this as a highlight under the brow and/or inner corner. Smut is the charcoal shade and I don't think I've used that one. I usually get annoyed with the inclusion of a black/dark grey 'liner' shade in a palette and MAC do it every time (at least it's not Black Tied, think I have a million of those). That said, the colour is quite appealing to me now, it looks quite taupey. I think those were the two permanent shades and the remaining 4 are limited edition. Till Daybreak is the dusky pink which back in the day, I wouldn't have had a bar of, but would perhaps give it a go now (in the crease). Then we get to the really fun ones in my opinion; With A Twist is the shimmery light green and probably my most used in this palette. If it isn't, then Gallant, the lilac is. Finally, Nightbird is that teal shade and I'd be all over that these days. I just think it's a really fun and varied, unique selection of colours.
The outer packaging is interesting too. The compact is high-shine black with an insert of textured fabric (padded behind) on the lid. I'm guessing it's supposed to be like suede...it doesn't feel like that to me. There's a black beaded charm dangling from the side and inside a small brush and full-size mirror in the lid.
I'm very glad I found this one, even if I can't remember how it came into my possession in the first place! There were a few surprises in the drawer (mainly those No7 palettes I mentioned last week), but most of it I remembered being in there. No update on the storage sorting, I've had quite a few migraines this week, so I've been trying to take it easy. Would the colours in this palette appeal to you?

These are so pretty :-D I used to visit the MAC section in Frasers. Pfft things are so different nowadays :-|
ReplyDeleteI really wonder if there'll be high streets left anywhere, it's sad. We actually got a MAC stand-alone shop here, was Bobbi Brown before that, but during the first lockdown it obviously shut but it never reopened. I think someone said there's a notice in the window now saying it's properly shut. We have a lot of non chain stores here, little independent shops, somehow they seem to be surviving, but bigger cities like Dundee with all the Arcadia brands/Debenhams etc, it's going to be a ghost town. I really loved browsing all the makeup counters in Debenhams there, it's not the same as buying online.
DeleteI totally agree. It is sad isn't it. A lot of my fav places to eat in Glasgow look like they might not reopen...a lot of wee vegan quirky places. So sad. Browsing and spending hours in a shop is half the fun haha!
DeleteThat's such a shame. I haven't been out at all in a year, but I was asking Mum where we would go now...most of our old haunts have closed down. Right now it's not really safe for me to even go out a walk, as the off-road places aren't suitable for the wheelchair and the main road is always so busy. People have a habit of touching me when they're talking to us or getting really close and I think I'd be freaking out. I wouldn't feel safe getting on a bus either if we went further afield (when we can). I'm lucky-ish that this street usually always has something happening, so I've lived this past year window watching!
