Sorry for the late post this week, I've had a 3 day migraine/headache that I couldn't shift and couldn't handle looking at a screen with. We're in the 25th week of Flashback Beauty Friday, which is a fun little reminisce about limited edition or older, discontinued beauty items. Last week was the MAC Cruella De Vil lipglass from their Disney Venomous Villains collection and I have photos of the new Cruella (live action) collection to share in a review post next week. For this post, I have a very cool, unusual item.

This is the Lancôme Destiny Cube in 01 Charisma. The Destiny Cube was the star of their 2007 Mystery Game collection and came in 2 colourways.

It's marketed as a secret game for eyes and lips. You roll the ball to choose your destiny and I guess the makeup look to match. There are various emotions (charming, fatal, jealous, flirtatious, secret) alongside images of the Lancôme rose, cherub, crescent moon, stars and question mark.

The ball itself is deep brown with a glossy finish and is very weighty.

If you place your nail in a certain groove, you can lift the lid to reveal 2 eyeshadows on one side and lift the other portion for 2 lip products. It's beautifully made and feels very luxurious I have to say. There's mirrors in each side and I like that the powder eye products are separate from the lips, as I hate them mixing.

The "fascinating effect" eye shadow duo consists of a khaki with a slight metallic finish, it's really lovely and the lighter one is a pinky lilac in the pan with shimmer. Once swatched, the shimmer is mostly what you get. It twinkles beautifully, so I don't mind, but don't expect an opaque colour.

The lip side is made up of  a "sensational effect" crème lip colour and a vibrant lip gloss. The darker side is the gloss, it's sheer, but still with colour and very shiny. The paler side is a very light milky pink.

The ball comes in a velvet pouch and there's a little booklet of inspiration inside, weirdly only featuring face charts for coquette (flirtatious) and fatale (fatal) from the outer cube, with the addition of enigmatique (enigmatic). The products are numbered 1-4 (no names), so you just follow the corresponding numbers and colours to achieve the look. I mean, there's only 4 products, so there's a limit to the looks you can do!

I really love this little thing. I like the lucky 8-ball style theme and it would be fun to follow a look inspired by whatever you roll that day, even if it has it's limitations given how small the palette is overall. It's just an adorable little collectors piece if you can't bring yourself to use it. Do you remember this one?
