Miss Selfridge Thigh High Boots Review

I was supposed to show you these images the other week, but I have a truckload of photos to edit and these got ignored until today. I've already shown a couple of pictures of these boots from Miss Selfridge on The Shoe Girl Diaries and promised a more thorough review here.
I've wanted some thigh high boots for a while but was worried how they would fit and look. I ordered both of these pairs online in the sale (£30 each). I believe they are both sold out online, so you will have to check your local store to see if they have any left. First up are these rather confused shoe/sandal/boots. They are much nicer in the flesh than the images I saw online (and are also available in an ankle boot). The leg is made from a velvet feeling fabric which has little stretch. The foot section has a lovely shaped 'Kirkwood' style platform and peep toe. The strapping with decorative buckles are attached to the leg part only by the inside zip, so the leg is kind of detached from the peep toe section at the front (still following?) The zip is not full length, so there is still some adjusting and pulling required to get the leg to fit correctly. I found these too tight in the foot, but ok-ish in the leg. They are definitely 'over the knee' boots rather than thigh high. Overall I really liked them, they are much classier than I expected and something a little different. This pair (above) are much more wearable. Made from very soft and stretchy moleskin type fabric, they have no zip opening as they are very easy to pull on. This has it's disadvantages though, it's very like wearing a long sock and I feel it would lose it's shape quickly. I definitely don't have skinny legs and these were quite big on me, so I can't imagine them fitting Miss Selfridge customers. Even walking around in them for 5 minutes, I felt the need to keep pulling them up as they slipped down. They are much longer than the previous pair (as you can see from the top image) and reached up to almost the very top of my thigh (very difficult to fit into a photo without revealing too much!). They are clearly not worn to be 'shown' and petite ladies, I'm afraid these would be far too long for you. A nice rounded shoe and slim platform and heel. Not as hard wearing as the first pair but easier to wear and would definitely fit curvier girls who may struggle with this trend otherwise
I sent back both pairs as I decided they weren't really for me and bought my dream pair of thigh high boots from River Island later anyway (pics to follow). The reason for me placing the order initially was for this cameo bow brooch to match the rest of my jewellery. I also got these cute hairbands, I sent back the black one (it just wasn't 'wow' enough) and I got the large blue satin bow one in pink too!

Fairy Lights and Unicorns

I've been tidying my room and come across all kinds of things I'd forgotten I had. My sister bought me these lovely fairy lights a couple of years ago and they were still in their box. I persuaded Dad to help me put them up and I now have the most magical, pretty looking bed, fit for a Princess! I now love sitting surrounded by fairies, lit up with my pink net canopy and my vintage Sindy wallpaper.
I was pleased to discover my Neopet unicorn still works. It's so cute, it's wings flap, it lights up and makes lots of cutesy noises. I've named her Phyllis! I made a video for you, but again I'm having trouble uploading it to blogger. Phyllis is accompanied by Misty Mae possibly the softest, fluffiest handbag ever, also pictured are some sparkly fairy wings (I had no idea I even had these and yes, even pushing 30 I tried them on and pranced around like a giant fairy)!

New Years Day FOTD

As I mentioned on The Shoe Girl Diaries I was desperate to wear my Topshop Boutique green velvet heels at some point. What better opportunity than New Years Day? I bought this beautiful blue floral dress from Monsoon months ago and it has a lot of green in the flowers which I thought my shoes would pick up perfectly. I wore green tights, almost the same shade as my shoes, so I wasn't opting for too many colour clashes. I wanted to do a smokey eye, but decided upon a flash of blue to tie in my makeup with my outfit. I actually wasn't that pleased with the finished look, I was definitely having an off-day and feeling like crap! My hair is bugging the hell out of me (it was also still wet in some images so just ignore it). The colour hasn't applied well at all this time and I think I need a cut, it's never sitting right, as you can see below, I took a strop with the frizzy, crazy hair!.
Makeup details YSL Touch Matte fdnt, No7 Quick Cover concealer and Milani blush in Pink Craze. Eyes; Silver and grey shades from MAC Dame Edna Wisteria e/s trio, bright blue mascara from Virgin Vie Rio Carnival Sparkle Lash in Salsa Shimmy, Collection 2000 Glam Crystals glitter eyeliner in 6 Night Fever and a blue Lancome eye pencil on lower lashline. Rimmel lipstick in 502 Virtuous and a touch of Barry M LE1 lipgloss on top.
I can't for the life of me find a decent setting on my camera that allows clear, detailed facial shots for FOTD's, so I'm afraid you'll just have to put up with speckled shots, sorry : (

Scarlett for Miss Selfridge?

I had to look twice when I saw this image from the new Miss Selfridge SS10 campaign (above left). Then I had to look again and again and again. Was that really Scarlett Johansson modelling for the UK high street? I actually managed to convince myself it was until I noticed another image (below) where the model looked nothing like Scarlett. On another note I adore these shoes (£40) from the new range, chunky heel, platform, polka dot and a bow, sounds right up my street. Miss S you're spoiling us!

Lime Crime Dreamy Lipstick

I first spotted this lipstick on Mod Cloth and was instantly drawn to the pretty, pastel packaging. I thought, if I were to have my own cosmetics brand, it would probably look a lot like this. Bright pink and sparkly unicorns, what more could you ask for? I didn't know anything about the brand Lime Crime or specifically the lipsticks, but imagined they would perhaps be of questionable quality. Something pretty to sit on your dressing table but not a lippie you'd reach for everyday. Although upon further investigation, I think I've been (happily) proven wrong. There are 10 lipsticks in the range and just look at them-absolutely delicious. Incredible colours and highly pigmented so the colour you see in the tube is the colour that applies to your mouth. Doe Deere, the model and makeup guru behind the brand wanted highly pigmented, creamy, opaque shades and judging by the (extremely helpful) images on the site of the lipstick on the lips, it's true. Dreamy! I don't know how I would decide which colour to wear, I'd love to play with them all and check their super colour-quality for myself! The brand isn't yet available in the UK, although I believe there are plans to launch here this year and there will also be new shades to the range.Check out the super cute website, I've already downloaded the desktop wallpaper and I love reading the funny stories behind each magical shade name. I love it when you find a kindred spirit!
