A Picture Of Me In My Mind

I don't own a camera (shoes take priority over gadgets), but I needed to take pictures of my ebay items, so borrowed one from my little sister (she has 3, definitely a gadgets over shoes girl). Now I'm actually pretty hopeless at photography even although I'm creative; they just never turn out how I see through the lens. Nonetheless, I took hundreds of ebay pictures and have spent all weekend listing them. Today I had another little project going that required taking images of myself. Now this is a very difficult thing to do without an automatic timer and one-handed (as I was supposed to be showing off the handbag). I didn't want the 'this is my arm outstretching to take a photo of myself pose' or the 'look in the mirror and take a pic with a big camera in your face' shot either. The outcome? Some were terrible, but I was actually quite impressed overall (especially as I'm terribly unphotogenic). I then started playing around with scene effects (yay I can get creative!) and this is how they look. Not too bad for an absolute novice eh?

MAC BBR & Creme Team Haul

Here's a rundown of my MAC order as promised. I'm hoping my haul will arrive tomorrow!I was a huge fan of the Cremesheen lipsticks, although a little disappointed at the colour choice, so I was really excited to see the latest range, Creme Team, which is based around the original and extends the collection further.

As well as lipsticks (I ordered Shy Girl-neutral beige and Creme Cup-pale pink), there are Cremestick Liners, a creamy retractable liner and Cremesheen Glass, like Dazzleglass but without the sparkle. I ordered, Boy Bait, which looks like the most gorgeous nude. I am also going to order, Partial to Pink-light pink with gold pearl and maybe Ever So Rich-sheer lilac (it's very poorly pigmented though) as well as Lavender Whip-cool lavender and Creme in Your Coffee-midtone pink brown lipsticks, when funds allow!
Then we have the Brunette, Blonde, Redhead collection (which I'm always worried I'm saying the wrong way round), anyway BBR confuses me slightly. I don't like this categorizing by hair-colour as favoured by some brands (namely L'Oreal). My point in question being that a brunette could have dark black skin or porcelain white skin. Surely the same colours aren't going to work for both? I realise hair colour plays a huge part in makeup, but surely skin colour is also (if not more) important? Are the colours supposed to suit skintones stereotypically found with that hair colour or to actually suit those with that hair colour? Perhaps it's just me that finds it silly as I have bright pink hair and therefore don't fall into any category! Anyway, I would suggest ignoring all colour theories and going with what you like and think will good on you.

Again, I've made a small order but get paid this week and will order more! I have bought What a Do! described as a neutral pink coral (!) and Marquise D'-creamy peach lipsticks as well as Soft Wave lipglass. These shade are from Brunette and Redhead collections. I wasn't overly taken with the eyeshadows, although the 3 Blonde shades appealed to me most. I'm also going to get Live and Dye lipglass which is Redhead, a cool pink. The Mineralize Skinfinish Degrades look gorgeous. Karla Sugar raved about them on her blog and from the wonderful swatches I'm keen to get my hands on them, so may purchase one or two as well!

I steered clear of Well Defined, although the concealer has been given rave reviews. My skin is so sensitive just now that I can't try anything new without a flare-up. The liquid foundation is gel based and provides a buildable coverage.

BBR, Creme Team and Well Defined UK

Things have been a little quiet for me on the makeup front and these new MAC collections almost (almost) passed me by. I have been trying, unsuccessfully I might add, to go on a no-buy until Hello Kitty in March. However, seeing as that hasn't worked and MAC continue to lure me in with their lip items, I splurged the last of my savings today. More tomorrow about the items I bought, but just to let you know Brunette, Blonde, Redhead, Creme Team and Well-Defined are live on the UK site now and on counter tomorrow.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to show you the oodles of MAC things I bought towards the end of last year either, as the lighting is so bad (even during the day), that it wasn't worth taking inaccurate colour images. I also have tonnes of things to ebay and taking all those pictures will have to come first. However, check out KarlaSugar and her wonderful swatches to help guide you before you buy.

Love Harajuku

Finally the wait is over! It seems like (and probably has been) ages since I first blogged about this on my Celeb Style website. Gwen Stefani has outdone herself with the super cool, Harajuku Lovers fragrance launch. A collection of 5 scents, named after herself and her 4 dancing buds, Love, (L'il) Angel, Music, Baby (L.A.M.B.). Each has a different scent and comes in the super duper adorable bottle with removable doll lid. Seeing as I was uber desperate to get my hands on them, I purchased all 5 without even smelling them first (much to the bemusement of the assistant in Boots)! I also logged onto the HL website (beware it's flash-player central and caused my computer to crash several times) and was lucky enough to win one of 1000 doll globes, to keep my fragrances in (type in the barcode from each 30ml fragrance to unlock special surprises and the first 1000 will receive the globe).
There doesn't appear to be any instore/online offers on the fragrances at this time, but if you can wait there may be some type of free gift in the future. Also look out for the solid perfumes, which are sold in a set (the model wears them in her hair in the ad). I haven't yet seen these instore. You also have to check either YouTube or the HL site to see the magical television advert, really cute. 30ml are priced around £20 each and 10ml around £12.50.

Birthday Weekend

How are you all? I hope you had a good weekend, I've been very busy. It was my Dads 60th on Saturday and all the family went for afternoon tea at a top hotel on Sunday. It was so relaxing, I just want to live there, permanently! Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and my little nephew loved running up and down the double staircase and riding in the lifts (his Aunt totally knackered by it all!). We tucked into tea, scones and cakes and had a wonderful time. My Granny hadn't realised quite how bright my hair was in the flesh and said I looked like...Vivienne Westwood (good choice Granny!). I had no idea what I was going to wear. Usually I pick a pair of shoes or piece of clothing I really want to wear and plan my outfit around that. However I have so many new shoes that I wanted to test out, I was stuck for choice. I narrowed it down to my Terry de Havilland green lace boots, Irregular Choice blue suede Audrina, Irregular Choice pink/purple Kitty Princess, V.Westwood Anglomania/Melissa Lady Dragon, Faith pink satin platforms and my Topshop green velvet Pout. For some reason I just couldn't be bothered to make a decision until the last minute and while trialling a few dresses, I eventually decided on the bright pink Faith pair, as my hair has just been re-coloured and is also bright, vivid pink. I wore with my Fendi lookalike dress, a black belt, long leggings and a black cardi (it was a chilly day). I wore a diamante bow in my hair, long pearl necklace and statement rings. The shoes, although difficult to buckle up, were surprisingly comfortable and stable to walk in.
I haven't been wearing makeup lately in a bid to help my acne prone skin, so it was a treat to play around. I had smokey eyes (using Pout and Versace eyshadows) and finally found a way to make my MAC/Heatherette Fleshpot lipstick work. It always looks too pale around the edges and makes me look dead. So, I used Pout lip pencil in 32A underneath which didn't leave me with that stripper look of darker lipliner and lighter lipstick, yet magically stopped the corpse look. Amazing.
