Monster High Monday: Dance Class Operetta

Sometimes it feels like Monday comes round real fast and it's 'Monster High Monday' again! This week I'm featuring one of my newest dolls and she's gone right up to my favourites list. I wanted her, but when I got her, I realised she was even cooler and more amazing than I'd originally thought! She is Operetta, daughter of the Phantom Of The Opera.
She has lilac toned skin and a rockabilly style which I think is super cute. She's pretty partial to a red lip! She always comes with a little mask like the Phantom as she has some 'artwork' and 'disfigured' carvings on her arm and one side of her face, just like Daddy! As scary as that should be-I think she looks stunning with it.
I also got to add a little beauty spot just next to the lower lip and switched my eyes for grey ones, not too scary actually.
So, I started with Lancome Teint Miracle in 005 with Illamasqua Rich Foundation in 115 under the eyes, Playboy First Blush in Pink Pussycat and finishing with E.L.F. Studio HD loose powder in Translucent.
On my lips are Pout Lip Line Definer and Clarins lipstick in Passion 330 (now discontinued).
The eyes took quite a lot of products. Starting with Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I applied the all over base shade (shimmery) from the Lancome Color Design palette in 103 Golden Frenzy. Next I took the pink shade from Lancome Color Fever Quad in 350, which is a really frosty pink that was required for this look. I just applied it from the lash line to a little past the crease. On top of that in the crease, I used Estee Lauder 08 Dusk (I had a GWP duo pot), which is a dusky purple for the smokey look. I didn't think there was enough of a contrast between the purple and the pink, so I applied a little Sonia Kashuk (no idea where I got this from) Enhance Eye Color in 06 Amethyst, which is a brighter purple. Under the lower lash line I blended some of the silver shade from Too Faced Ooh & Aah duo.
My liner is YSL Waterproof pencil with a flick of Lancome ArtLiner and Lancome Hypnose Star mascara.
It was alright-ish this week, the lipstick was ridiculously bright in the flesh, but I think in real life all the colours at least looked similar to Operetta. We'll see what I manage to come up with next week and in the meantime if you'd like to see me sans grey eyes and beauty spot, then head over to The Shoe Girl Diaries for an outfit I think Operetta would be proud of actually!

Monster High Monday: Mad Science Lagoona

Happy New Year! I'm not keen on posting two similar posts consecutively but that's just the way it's worked out as we're back to Monster High Monday again! I love Lagoona Blue, I think she's utterly adorable! I also feel she's very undervalued in the Monster High series and releases. Personally I think from watching the webisodes that she looks like a fabulous friend, she's very level headed, extremely beautiful and I just love the mash-up of her accent which comes across as Australian one second then Cockney the next (funny when it's not supposed to be)! I feel the other MH girls ignore her a bit though, as she's always stuck 'in the pool' being a sea monster and all and she's not always considered a 'core' character in doll releases, even although she was an original character, which annoys me! She seems very sweet anyway, so it's nice to see her featured in a few of the newer collections.
This particular Lagoona also happens to be one of my favourites. The release was based on school subjects and she was 'Mad Science' and even came with a little jar with a froggy in it! I think she's adorable in her white lab coat (I usually feared 'catching' something wearing the ones at my school)! She always has lovely shimmering blue skin, freckles and green eyes; so for once the colouring isn't too far from my own.
Her makeup features a bold, bright turquoise eye (which appears more blue in the pics, in reality it was bright aqua) with glitter highlighter and a frosty medium pink lip. She has no blush, so I altered that for my own face.
As usual I used, YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat in BR10 with Illamsqua Rich Foundation in 115 as concealer under the eyes and finished with ELF Studio translucent loose powder. On my cheeks was Playboy First Blush in Pink Pussycat.
For the eyes, I used a base of Paul & Joe Eye Gloss in 05 L'Aurore (a sheer sparkling lilac) with Urban Decay eyeshadow in Electric, applying from lashline to slightly above the crease (the colour isn't as 'exaggerated' as it has been on previous dolls). As it's a matte shade though it can look a little 'flat', so I used Lancaster Chameleon eyeshadow in 108 Pool Vibrations over the top just to soften the look a bit and also took this under the lower lashline. I applied MAC 'Reflects Pearl' glitter as a highlighter under the brow for some sparkle like Lagoona (the glitter is much prettier in person). As it's a loose powder, I dabbed the P&J eye gloss and applied the glitter while that was still 'wet' to avoid it falling everywhere. Eyeliner is YSL Waterproof pencil with L'Oreal Carbon Black SuperLiner and YSL Shocking Volume mascara.
For the lips, a frost lipstick was required to emulate Lagoona's lips. I used Clinique Long Last lipstick in All Heart as a base and also to add a deeper tone to create that mid-pink as I used Wet'n'Wild Wild Shine Lipstick in 52 Enamored over the top, which is much lighter. These two combined were absolutely spot-on the shade of this dolls lips. Sadly neither Lagoona's nor my lips showed true to colour in the photos (hers came out much lighter and more lilac, mine more rosy-red), so I had to play around with my lip shade here to show a slightly more true colour. If you've ever seen this doll in real life though, these two lipsticks undoubtedly mimic that lip colour.
I was pleased that this was a completely different look yet again from previous weeks. You can find my first Ghoulia post here and Draculaura last week here or click the "Monster High Monday" logo in the sidebar for all posts. Are you still enjoying my Monster High inspired faces?

Compact Powders Storage

Last week I was hunting for more things to sell on eBay and in my usual fashion, got distracted (although technically it was for a good deed) and managed to find storage for my overspill of blush and highlighting powders.
I got this black sparkly Lancome vanity case last year and I realise as I'm writing this that I've still never actually shown you what was inside and the rest of the haul that went with it! I do still have the photos somewhere and will eventually get round to posting them! Anyway, I grabbed all my extra powders (I already have a shallow drawer with my blushes and a deep one with more blush and highlighters-which was getting too full to close). I also had some newer, homeless Lancome and MAC powders and amazingly, the entire overspill (and a good chunk of the 'deep drawer') fitted perfectly into this case, with the exception of two compacts which sit on top, but I'm mega excited at the neat little rows! Everything just slotted in perfectly.
I thought you may like a closer look...
The first row is all MAC, mainly Beauty Powders (I'm a sucker for a pretty compact if you can't already tell).
The next row are some of my MAC powder blushes.
I discovered 'Stark Naked' which is completely untouched and looks absolutely beautiful (a soft dusky pink with gold shimmer); so I'm definitely going to be trying this out next week.
The third row includes my 'too stunning to touch' LE Lancome blush/highlighters, Pout Shimmer Swirls and some No7 LE highlighters and blush.
Then the last row is a bit of a mix; with Too Faced 'Brightening Blush', The Balm-Hot Mama, one of my Pout Rouge compacts (Apricot Totty), a couple of my Playboy 'First Blush', Soap & Glory 'Glow All Out', Dainty Doll 'Blush & Contour' (Bloom), MAC/Hello Kitty 'Tippy' and some more LE No7 highlighters.
My only problem now is I don't actually have a place to put the box!  It's currently residing on the floor in my 'The Shoe Girl Dairies' foot-shot spot, so I've been moving it daily!  On a plus, I'm definitely getting more used to the new Photobucket editing system.  I managed this lot quite quickly and that included using text which I haven't used in any images since the change.  You can't choose a font size which is a bit annoying if you want the same-size lettering in every picture; it's just guess work, dragging the box to the size you wish.  After editing my first two images and wondering why there were so few fonts to choose from, I discovered actually there's tonnes and probably would've used something else had I know that!

Dark Lipstick Swatches Part 3/3

The final installment of the dark lipstick swatches, you'll find part 1 here and part 2 here. These are probably some of the darkest of the bunch. In all of these posts, I've tried to take photos of the lipsticks in a light that you can see roughly what colour they are, but if I were to show you an image like the one below, you can see just how dark they really are.
Versace Hydrating Lipstick in V2010-C (discontinued I think), very pigmented, opaque, plum purple.
Pout Two Timer (discontinued) this is a lighter, brighter purple with pink undertones and a shimmery metallic quality.
Urban Decay Vinyl, looks dark purple in the tube, but is actually quite sheer with rosy tan undertones and sporadic shimmer. I hate the scent of UD lipsticks, it's liquorice and stinks! What's worse is if you lick your lips, never, ever do that, it's disgusting!
Playboy Stiletto Lipstick 61 Exposed, this particular lipstick is supposed to be sheer, it's a browny wine shade.
MeMeMe Ultra Duo Double Colour in 6 Naomi (discontinued I think, has a pink shimmery shade on the other side), a thick pigmented colour, wine burgundy.
Topshop Lips in Ruthless, black in the tube and has a definite black tone to it but is actually very deep purple, you'll get a really strong gothic look with this, has a lovely velvet matte finish.
Revlon Super Lustrous in 663 Va Va Violet, this is my newest addition and is purple but more burgundy than Topshop and is very buildable, so you can achieve a lighter look with this if that's preferred.
NYX Round Lipstick in 503 Medusa, this feels much more slippery than the others, it's very glossy and has sporadic shimmer throughout, it's blackcurrant jam colour.
Calvin Klein Lip Color Wash in Wine (discontinued), another sheer lipstick, although it's darker than the Playboy one, a browny wine. I've paired this in the past with a really dark lipliner and achieved a very dark lip (my profile pic).
Barry M Lip Paint in 92 Chestnut Red, just look at how opaque this is! This is like a pleather, thick brown pigment and will give you that precise vampy lip that you so often see in the beauty pages of magazines. It's definitely more vamp than goth.

LOTD Challenge Day 19

A quick lip today, sorry (see The Shoe Girl Diaries for more details). I'm not actually keen on this gloss, it's too frosty for my liking, looks a bit cheap on me. I am uncontrollably excited about my MAC order that I placed last night. Funds are super tight, but upon closer inspection the eyeshadows from Love That Look were looking super delicious. I stayed strong though and just bought One-Off (I already have Smoke & Diamonds). My other choices would have been Strike A Pose, Fashion and Fashion groupie. I also said 'no' to Roman Holiday, hopefully I can swap for it or buy it later (£14 is a lot for a gloss, when I already have tonnes). I also got Graphic Garden e/s palette and Summer Crop Lip Bag, both containing the most beautiful colours ever, whoop, whoop! What about you, will you be placing an order?

Boots/Superdrug Haul

Hi everyone, had a fabby time shopping today. I will have more pics and details for you tomorrow, but in the meantime I took these photos quickly just now. I'm really pleased with my loot.First up my Playboy cosmetics package arrived before we left this morning, so I still have that to properly look at.I went crazy with the new nail polish colours at Collection 2000, plus I picked up yet another 2 glitter eyeliners. It was 3 for 2 at GOSH and I got this gorgeous metallic eyeliner (that has better staying power than anything else known to (wo)man), nude Darling lipstick and a gorgeous nude lipgloss too. I must say I was very put off with the mucky testers and general gross-ness of the GOSH counter. It really makes me not want to buy anything when it's like that. Don't you think?
A lipstick from NYC which I tried that looks completely different swatched to in the tube. Revlon Nude Attitude matte lipstick (obsessed with nudes I know!). Lancome La Base Pro, after Lancome never got back to me about ingredients I just decided to go ahead and purchase. Estee Lauder Vanilla Truffle lipstick (...em, it's nude) and Natural Collection Fondant l/g and Apple Blossom (seriously) nude lipstick! I'll let you know all the deals and deets tomorrow.
Also popped into the Disney Store and went crazy over the new Little Mermaid stuff (got A4 notebook, stationery set (going to use the tiered box for makeup storage) and a pen set). Plus more hairbands from H&M, 2 purple Hello Kitty ones and the most amazing fuzzy (Aristocats) ears. What do I need them for?, you may ask (my sis did). They are ears people, ears! Ears with a bow! I'm going to wear them every day...proudly.Oh, anyone know how to get rid of moths? We had a scary situation with 12 flying around our bathroom last night (there was a lot of squealing, ducking and diving from me). It's not like they 'nest', so I can't understand why we had that many. I know they are attracted to light, so we always keep the bathroom door shut (from the rest of the house/lights) and obviously the light is only on when we are in it. Mothballs are sometimes lavender scented, so we used a lavender room spray and sprayed all over the bathroom curtain and generally everywhere (we were gagging, the moths were flying!) and hope this will deter them.
