I'm blogging past and present Christmas beauty releases every day until Christmas with a discount code or free gift offer at the bottom of each post. yesterday I shared an eyeshadow palette from Kiko's 2020, Holiday Gems collection. Today, I'm very excited about the item I have. I've been wanting to blog this since I got it from Santa last year, but was saving it for my Festive Beauty posts this year! Over on The Shoe Girl Diaries, I'm sharing my Irregular Choice Christmas or festive looking shoes, daily. Today, I have something from the current season, a twist on an old character heel.
This is the Dior Rouge Dior Minaudiere, Case & Lipstick Holder from their 2021 Atelier Of Dreams Collection. For years now, as part of the Dior gift sets, there's been a case with lipsticks. The case were usually zipped, leather-look with patterning or branding on the front and many people DIY'd these into proper handbags as they didn't come with straps. For 2021, Dior not only made it into a proper bag with strap, but elevated it into one of the most extra makeup items I own and I absolutely love them for it.
The Atelier Of Dreams Collection was all about celebrating Avenue Montaigne in Paris, where the Dior Haute Couture Boutique is situated. The building was engraved into lipsticks, powders and cases, including the minaudiere. Inside the drawer style outer box is a small gold box with such engraving. Open that case to reveal 3 Rouge Dior refill lipsticks. To the side of the bigger case though is a small tubular, plain gold attachment. With CD on the twist lid, open it to reveal a Rouge Dior lipstick in a specially engraved case. The neat part is, this section can be detached and the chain attached to the CD loops at either side to be carried as a super cool lipstick holder or placed back onto the bigger compartment and the whole thing can be used as a bag on a chain. The tray of lipstick refills can be taken out of the box to create a small minaudiere clutch bag (or chained handbag as explained). There's also a full sized mirror in the lid of the clutch.
I refute the reviews I saw last year, saying this looked or felt cheap. I think it's beautiful and much more appropriate than piercing holes in what is essentially a makeup bag to turn into a handbag. For 2022, the bag has retained it's shape but comes in plain black. The design etched into it, is what I thought was so beautiful, so that's a pity, but maybe some people would prefer a sleek black bag. It's taken several years, but finally Dior have given us a proper bag and I couldn't be happier with the shape, I think it's absolutely divine. I'm so that person that would carry a lipstick in it's own retro style holder! Everything was very reflective, so I've probably not done it justice in the photos, but I've tried to show the patterning.
So, the lipsticks included were all colours available individually in that collection, which was brilliant as it saved me buying one. You also had Diorific lipsticks sold separately which were completely different colours and packaging and had the building facade on the actual lipstick. The colours in the set are, 466 Pink Rose (satin), 858 Red Pansy (matte), 862 Winter Poppy (velvet) and 873 Sparkling Peony (metallic). I am really impressed that they included 4 different finishes and often I find the Dior lipstick sets at Christmas very samey, all bright reds and pinks, so I was glad there were a couple more to my liking. Actually Winter Poppy, the red, is the only one I'll probably not use. I do have a couple of Rouge Dior refills from the mainline that I bought (212 Tutu metallic and 449 Dansante satin) that are much more me, that I intended to switch into the set anyway. Lipsticks are shown below in the same order as detailed above and in swatches left to right. I swiped the lipsticks quite heavily in the arm swatches and didn't edit the colours/light of any of the below photos.
