Flashback Beauty Friday 92: Dior Beauty Confidential
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifted items.
I've been quite excited this week as the festive makeup collections are starting to come out. I bought a lot of MAC's Bubbles & Bows and it all looks lovely, I'm really saving for the Paul & Joe Cinnamoroll release and their advent calendar though (which I love every year). I've already bought Mum the Elemis calendar for Christmas. Anyway last week, I shared the Stila sponge compact foundation, Pivotal Skin, if you missed that. Today I have a limited edition piece that means a lot to me.
It's the Dior Beauty Confidential, Ready-To-Wear Summer Makeup Face-Lips in 001 Sun Illusion from Christian Dior's Summer 2006 collection. Dior describe it as a makeup palette containing a healthy-glow sun powder (9g) and and extreme shine lip gloss (1.3g). I do recall a whiter powder version, Moon Glow I think. Although this palette is totally my type of colour, I just haven't been able to bring myself to use it. It's actually still boxed and wrapped in the CD tissue paper it came with, it's just too precious for me to touch.
Let's talk about the outer compact first. It's heavy, like really heavy. This is not the type of thing you'd travel with or indeed carry anywhere. It's the type of weight that leaves you in no doubt that this is a luxury product. It's mirrored silver with an envelope style pattern and Dior engraved on the faux flap. The back even has a little stamp shape in the corner.
Open it up and you have a full sized mirror in the lid and an angled flat face brush to the side, which is quite generously sized for a palette brush. The majority of the compact is taken up by the powder, a beautiful soft peach with lots of gold sparkles. It truly is something I'd wear a lot. A small corner 'stamp' houses the gloss, which has discoloured a little over the years (it looks marbled, it wasn't always like that). I'm not the biggest fan of cream/gloss products sharing a pan with powder products, especially something like this which will undoubtedly kick up powder particles when you're using a brush. Plus I just never reach for pan lip products as they're such a plaster to reapply and I certainly wouldn't be slipping this into my bag!
The thing I love most though is that the letter theme continues with something etched into the powder. The clever part is, you look into the mirror to see it reflected the correct way and read it. It says "Dior, 30 Av Montaigne, 75008 Paris", which is of course the address of the House of Dior, their grand boutique in France. It's just so dear, I could never ruin it (even if the address is quite deeply engraved).
This was peak LE Dior era for me, I lusted after these quirky, often wearable (jewellery or charms) pieces so bad. The way they were presented was usually more desirable than the actual product itself, though in this instance I am a little sad, as I totally would've worn this. Do you remember this one?
