Flashback Beauty Friday 80: Paul & Joe Hummingbird Lipstick
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifted items.
Thankfully it's a bit cooler today (before the next heat wave), so I've been able to move around and get on with work. As I was frantically fanning myself this past week, it reminded me of something I could photograph for Flashback Beauty Friday, so that's what I have today. Last time I shared my collection of Playboy Calendar Girl lipsticks with swatches, if you missed that.
So, the item today dates back to 2006 and is the Paul & Joe Lipstick in 200 Ange Rose in the stunning hummingbird print. As you'll know from previous P&J posts, their pretty prints and themes are usually what appeal to me more than the actual colour of lipstick or eyeshadow or whatever. I remember being utterly crazy about this bird print. At the time I was into swapping makeup with people from all over the world on MakeupAlley (mainly for brands/items I couldn't get here) and top of my wishlist was always the little clasp top pouch in this print. Instead I managed to get this paper fan used in the background. I can't remember if someone included it as an extra because they knew I liked the print or if I actually swapped something for this. Luckily for me, the pouch relaunched as part of the 20th anniversary collection back in 2016, so I did eventually get my hands on a reproduction. It was highly sought after at the time anyway, but I'll share that one another time because the entire set it came in was amazing.
Back to the lipstick and I'm struggling to find information on it because it was so early, but I think it was part of the 2006 Holiday release rather than their twice yearly LE collections. I have featured it on the blog before in my Lipstick Challenge years ago, but I bought it before I began blogging here, so have no more info. The lipstick cannot be removed from the case, it was pre-refillable cases, but the shade inside is right up my street anyway.
It looks like a cool toned taupe-brown, but doesn't swatch as such. I felt my arm swatch photos were really inaccurate this week (as usual I've made no edits to the colouring), it was taking on an orange tone, which it doesn't have at all, but no matter where I photographed it, it was the same. It's more of a rosy brown on me with a sheer finish, so it can be built up (like this swatch), but never goes too dark.
Paul & Joe have had numerous fabulous patterns since the 2006 hummingbird and whilst I wouldn't necessarily put it as my all-time favourite now, I'll never forget it's charm and the intense love I had for it at the time. Do you recall the hummingbird print?
