Flashback Beauty Friday 43: FCUK Lipsticks
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifted items.
Another hark back to old makeup this week, with a brand long discontinued in the world of beauty. Last week I shared the Too Faced Hollywood Glamour In A Box palette, so click that if you missed it.
FCUK or French Connection, are a well established fashion brand here, but years back they had a makeup line, which I think was exclusive to Boots. It's certainly where I shopped for it and as far as I'm aware, they no longer do makeup at all. I actually bought a lot of things when they were being discontinued and were reduced to £1 or 50p or something along those lines. These are the lipsticks I have, which came in very interesting packaging.
The whole line was very capsule and pod like, with odd shapes, snappy closures and I'm sure (if I'm remembering correctly) buildable, customisable options.
The lipsticks came in rounded silver bullets with a plastic, see-through cap in place of a lid, which you flip up and then push the lipstick up from the side, rather than twist. The top of the lipstick is visible through the lid, which was handy as the shade stickers on the bottom consist of memorable and inspired...err, numbers! More on that in a moment. The packaging is certainly unique, unlike most other lipsticks and generally quite un-makeup-like.
You can't lose the hinged lid and it stays out of place when applying, so it's not just a gimmick, it's practical too. The whole line had the pink branding and from what I can remember had some form of transparent packaging.
The shades I have are (from left to right); 02, 08, 04 and 03 and I've swatched them in the same order. They were sheer and quite streaky and needed a lot of swiping to build the colour. It could just be they're very old! The palest one (04) has more of a frost finish, so actually it wasn't as transparent as the others.
Do you remember FCUK makeup at all?
