40th Birthday Shoes: Vetements Eiffel Tower Heels
Post does not contain affiliate links or PR gifts.
I told you these shoes were going to be a little different! These are the 3rd of the four 40th birthday pairs I treated myself to throughout last year. You can find my last post here. Unlike the others, these hadn't been something I'd long had my eye on, but when the opportunity arose (at about 85% off), I jumped on it.
They are the Vetements Eiffel Tower sock boots in black. The boot itself, is the most boring in my collection, lets be real here. You know I love a fancy upper and these definitely aren't that, but the heel more than makes up for it (more on that in a moment).
These are my first sock boots and they're a little weird feeling at first. I wasn't quite sure how they would feel or what the fit would be like. They have no fastenings, as there's some stretch, so they are essentially pull-on, though there's lots of bits to note. Inside there is actually a partial leather shoe, all around the heel and it tapers at the sides where it disappears into nothing (at the widest part of your foot). There's a wide elastic strap about midway down that you need to slip your foot under. So it's a little tricky to get into this and make sure everything is flat against the foot (the heel area was tucking under my heel at first). I expected the knitted uppers to be super stretchy, but I suppose you need your foot to stay in place and not slip and slide all over or stretch the knit, so it is quite snug and taut. Your toes are free from anything, just the knitted upper covering them, so you can see the lumps of your toes from the outside, it's a bit strange! I definitely couldn't put them on in a hurry, as there's too many things to get right. Oh and there's also a leather strip up the centre back, so the shaft doesn't lose it's shape and sits up the leg as it should.
The heel is obviously what drew me in. I'm a big lover of anything Eiffel Tower themed and this is so intricately detailed. It's in silver and sits upside down under your foot, with the base sprawled under your heel and the top, the heel tip. It's absolutely stunning.
I'm so tempted to stick a Polly Pocket in there!
Next time, I'll show you my final birthday pair, another style I happened to get lucky with price-wise. I've given absolutely no thought to birthday shoes this year (I'm back to one, the 4 pairs were only because it was my 40th), but this year is going so fast that I need to keep an eye out, as it's only a couple of months away! What do you think of these?
Yup that heel is amazing! The boots look okay, subtle but then you get to the heel and wow :-D
ReplyDeleteYeah, I definitely would've wanted more detail in the uppers for the full rrp, but that's just what I'm used to with Irregular Choice. I'm tempted to add brooches or something to them, don't know if it'll make them tacky though.
