I think we've lost summer now don't you? We've actually had some pleasant, sunny moments this week, but the air has definitely changed and it's leaning colder. So I'm getting ready to give up the summer clothes, embrace Autumn and that awkward 'transitional' period where you're not quite wanting to go into tights territory and can't decide if you need a coat or not! Even if trends aren't something you particularly look to or follow, I think there is a style, colour, pattern or shape for everyone this season. They are so diverse and there's so many, plus it's up to you how much or little you incorporate into your own unique look. Starting with something small like shoes for example, is an easy way to merge your style with a nod to a current trend. I've put together this selection of my three most inspiring footwear trends for AW13 and how they translate onto the high-street.
Ladylike/40's
On the one hand this season, there's masses of tartan and pvc and all things punk which re-emerges in winter every so often, but then you have this ladylike, feminine moment coming through. There's a strong emphasis on hourglass curves (which you can cheat your way to, if you don't already own). Skirt suits, slim pencil or full voluminous skirts, midi hem lengths, girly coats, belted waists and fur accessories are some of how you can get this look. While footwear definitely has that 40's vibe going on. Almost every designer paired their outfits with 'ladylike' shoes for A/W. Look for slim silhouettes, single soles (or very small platforms if you must) and details like the dainty ties at Marc Jacobs, thin straps or mary-janes. These 'Mullner' by Madonna's Truth Or Dare label have it spot-on (in more ways than one). The spotty print amps up the girly factor and you only have to look to Miu Miu as proof that polka dots are so 'in' this season. I love the subtle peep toe on these too.
Going For Gold
Statement heels are still having their moment and this season it's all about the metal. Rochas paired their croc courts with subtle metal heel tips while Dolce & Gabbana went full on decadence with jewelled encrusted gold block heels. Dune have absolutely nailed the trend this season with their corkscrew 'Blazing' courts, spiral 'Amba' mary-janes and the 'cupped' 'Believer' platforms. Look for simple or unfussy shoes, like these, where the heel takes the spotlight, luxury finishes like velvet or suede and jewel tones of rich purple or red.
Pink/Leopard Print
Pink is most definitely the colour of the season, which might strike some as unusual for winter. I can't ever remember the shade being so prominent any year/season, but there's sickly sweet at Carven, bold fuchsia at DKNY, pastel at Giles and dusky blush from the Topshop Unique show. Not only that but leopard print, yet again, is the print to be seen in. Burberry Prorsum paired theirs with hearts, Giles went large and washed out while DKNY kept their print small and even combined two trends with pink leopard print! These Carvela 'Astro' courts have gone one step further mixing pink, leopard and texture too. Footwear and accessories this season are very tactile in pony skin or full-on fur like Fendi, so these courts really do have it all.
Have you any plans for some new season shoes? Any of these trends take your fancy?

Great post! Love the shoes you picked and am seriously thinking about getting the Truth or Dare Mullner pair or the Carvela leopard printed ones. Very pretty shoes :)
ReplyDeleteYeah those ToD ones look soooo pretty, the others in the collection featured pointy toes or studs, but I really liked this pair.
